Shell Morphometry & Cones
Question : Shell morphometry (forum : 2015)
Hello, I am a newbie trying to understand the measurements for the cone shells. Could you explain the following abbreviations or direct me to a site where they are explained: I assume "L" is length. Thanks.
Shell Morphometry
L50-104 mm
RW
0.10-1.25 g/mm
(L 35-95 mm)
RD
0.46-0.61
PMD
0.85-0.95
RSH
0.05-0.21
Answer (David Touitou)
Hello, Here is part of the answer :
SL : Shell length (maximum in mm)
RW : Relative Weight = Shell Weight (SW, g) / SL (mm)
RD : Relative Diameter = Maximum Diameter / Aperture Height (AH)
PMD : Position of Maximum Diameter = Height of Maximum Diameter / AH
RSH : Relative Spire Height = (SL-AH)/SL
S : Aperture Shape = Aperture Wide = AW/Aperture Lengh (AL)
